my tech vantage - now vs zed (+catcha, Strategem

See also post on mediocre.

The issue -- In zed, catcha, EMPworld, Strategem, STElectronics, b2bTradeEngine, volFitter, I was seen as technically very strong, and to a lesser extent in GS.

#1 benchmark is how fast you get stuff done. Quality is secondary.

Xp: Stirt -- I would say I was still seen as technically competent in Stirt team though other people were stronger.
Xp: OC -- I proved my worth and quick learning, though I didn't exceed expectation.

Factor: complexity – in GS, Stirt,.. the pre-existing complexity and ramp-up expectation was significantly higher than earlier environments. Zed was high complexity low expectation. So was Autoreo and b2bTradeEngine.

Factor: instrumentation -- including build tools. I was good at unix, java, perl, SQL.. but how about instrumentation of dotnet, MSVS, c++, Excel, and windows in general?

Factor: old timers -- In recent teams I was benchmarked against old timers (having complexity advantage). I think Venkat is the only rookie.

The above factors are related – when the job presents complexity, your ramp-up speed is benchmarked against others. Instrumentation is the key skill

Factor: focus – Xia Rong pointed out maybe I was too curious exploring the forest. I think this did affect me in Autoreo, OC and Stirt.
Factor: MSFM? Minor
Factor: caliber -- of the colleagues. I guess my peers now are VP-level, from around the world. In contrast, earlier colleagues are often incompetent, who would not rise to VP level.
Factor: aging -- Is my mind slower and less sharp? I won't reach that dangerous conclusion yet.
Factor#1: kids -- family responsibilities. I can't concentrate hen I need to

Not sure which factor is a trivial one.

(I guess I was not seen as a top java coder in OceanLake.)
